About the project

The ‘Football for Peace’ project works with some 1000 children from the favelas of São Paulo. Its objective is to put the children in a position to resolve conflicts non-violently and to develop other social competences and also to provide young people with worthwhile leisure activities and keep them off the streets.

The method is street football, complemented by pedagogical elements. Street football is also an important tool for the social workers that enables them to make contact with the young people and offer help in a concrete context.

The project is carried out by a network of several partner organisations.

Activities:

  • Street football to boost social competences
  • Strengthening the São Paulo street football network that is managed independently by young people
  • Training of street mediators and conflict mediators
  • Social and welfare support; legal support
